Crisp Telegram bot: reply to website visitors from Telegram

Keep your Crisp website widget and answer visitors from a Telegram Topics group. GPT KeFu forwards Crisp conversations into topics so your team can reply from Telegram. Telegram forwarding requires Growth or Scale; Trial and Starter do not include it.

Choose the right Crisp Telegram integration

For a team that wants to reply to website visitors without opening the Crisp inbox, use GPT KeFu’s Telegram forwarding. The visitor stays in the website chat; your team works in the linked Telegram topic.

Crisp’s native Telegram channel serves a different flow: messages sent to a Telegram bot arrive in the Crisp inbox. Choose that direction if your customers use Telegram and your agents want to answer in Crisp.

Check the plan and group before setup

  • An existing Crisp website with the GPT KeFu plugin installed and the Crisp connection enabled.
  • A GPT KeFu Growth or Scale project. Telegram forwarding is not included in Trial or Starter; your Crisp subscription is separate.
  • A Telegram group with Topics enabled. Add @GPTKeFuBot as an administrator with permission to manage topics and send messages.
  • A group limited to your support team. Messages in mapped topics can be sent to visitors; do not use a public community group or put internal notes in a customer topic.

Set up the Crisp Telegram bot

  1. Create the Topics group, add @GPTKeFuBot and grant the permissions above.
  2. Send /group to the bot in the group. Copy the Group ID from its response, including the leading minus sign.
  3. In your Crisp project, open Telegram forwarding. Activate the feature if the setup form is not present, then enter the Group ID.
  4. Save the group settings and enable Telegram forwarding. Confirm that the Crisp connection is enabled too.
  5. Open your website as a visitor and send a new text message. Find the corresponding topic in Telegram.
  6. Write a plain-text reply inside that topic. Confirm that it appears in the same Crisp conversation and website widget before using the group with customers.
Website visitor → Crisp conversation → Telegram topic
Team’s text reply in that topic → the same Crisp conversation

Use AI replies alongside your team

Telegram forwarding and automatic AI replies have separate settings. If your project uses AI, enable and configure automatic pause in the Crisp settings to pause AI after a human reply. The pause has a duration; it is not a permanent transfer to a human queue.

Test with a fresh visitor message, a human text reply and a follow-up message. Check the configured pause and recovery behavior in your own conversation before relying on it.

Crisp Telegram notifications or replies not working?

  • No topic appears: check the project plan, saved Group ID, forwarding switch, Crisp connection and the bot’s topic-management permissions.
  • The bot does not answer /group: confirm it is in the intended group and can receive commands and send messages there.
  • A reply does not reach the website: send plain text inside the topic created for that visitor. Messages in General or an unrelated topic are not a substitute for the mapped conversation.
  • Do not assume attachments work in both directions. This setup guide covers text replies from Telegram; verify any other message type separately.
  • Use your Crisp inbox while diagnosing a forwarding problem, and confirm delivery in the website widget before resuming Telegram replies.

Questions before you start

Can I try Telegram forwarding on the free trial?
No. The trial does not include Telegram forwarding. Create and configure your Crisp project, then choose Growth or Scale if you want to use this feature. Check the current subscription terms before purchasing.
Do I need to create a Telegram bot with BotFather?
For this GPT KeFu flow, add @GPTKeFuBot to your group. Do not confuse it with Crisp’s native Telegram channel, which uses a bot token for the opposite messaging direction.
Can I reply with photos or voice messages from Telegram?
This guide covers plain-text replies inside the mapped topic. Do not treat photos, voice messages or arbitrary group messages as supported replies in this flow.
Does this replace Crisp or work with a Chatwoot project?
No. Telegram forwarding here is an extension of a Crisp project. You keep the Crisp website and inbox; this is not a standalone Telegram helpdesk or a Chatwoot feature.
